Almost everyone of us is well aware of the free photo storage offered by Google. With Google, you can get upto 15GB of storage. Although you can also have unlimited storage, your images will get compressed then and losing the quality which photos initially had. However, many people are not aware about the Amazon unlimited photo storage. Yes, you heard it right. Many people who are even Amazon Prime subscribers, don’t realize that Amazon has free unlimited photo storage, that too of full-resolution RAW image files.

If you want to move your Google photos or copy them for another backup, you will need to download them from Google and transfer them into the Amazon account. In this article, we will discuss how to move your photos from Google to Amazon Photos.

Prepare Your Mobile Device-

If you are using the Google Photos mobile app, then the first thing that you need to do is to clear all the photos from your phone that are currently backed up on your cloud account. Doing this will eliminate the probability of ending up with doubles of all those images on your Prime account.

  • First of all, open your Google Photos app.
  • Next, tap the menu bar i.e. the three lines present in the top left corner of the screen.
  • After that, tap “Free up device storage” and here you will get to know if all of your photos are backed up before you take this action.
  • Then, proceed.
  • When you are in Settings, you can turn off “Automatic backup” by tapping the “Back up and Sync” option and turning the toggle switch to off. In case, you don’t do this, then you will have backups at both the places.
  • After that, install the Amazon Photos app on your mobile phone.
  • Then, open the app and choose if you want to automatically back up photos and devices and turn the toggle switch off or on accordingly.

Downloading Your Google Photos-

After the above process is completed successfully, you need to download the photos which you want to move to your Amazon Prime Photos onto your computer or cloud storage.

  • First, go to the Google Takeout where all your data is stored.
  • Next, you will see a large list of app data from all the apps which you use.
  • You can click on “Deselect all” as it is much faster than doing each one independently.
  • After that, scroll down until you find Google Photos and tick the checkbox next to it.
  • Now, if you do not want to download specific albums or other formats, you can click on the appropriate box and deselect the items which you do not want.
  • Then, scroll to the very bottom to find and click the “Next step” button.
  • Next, choose your delivery method.
  • After that, leave the other options i.e. export type, file type, and archive size as they are and click on the “Create archive” option.
  • Now, wait for the archive to be created and it will take a while, depending on how many photos you are backing up.

Instructions for the Prime Photos-

After you have completed the above process, now it is time to set up the Prime Photos app. In order to use the Prime Photos, you need an Amazon Prime account. If you already have a Prime account, then you will automatically have Prime Photos.

  • First of all, go to Amazon Photos App.
  • Next, click the “Download” button.
  • After that, open the file and launch the installation.
  • Then, click Install and after that, the application should launch automatically. If not, open it.
  • Next, sign in to your account.
  • After signing in, drag the downloaded folder of your Google Photos to the Amazon Photos Window.
  • Next, choose the folder where you want to save the photos or create a new one.
  • At last, move Photos Amazon Google Choose Destination Folder

Now, if you have more than one file of images that downloaded from your Google Photos, then repeat the process of dragging the folders to the Amazon Photos App window. Note that, Amazon only allows for 5GB of video as part of their storage, but images are unlimited. You may wish to keep the videos off this server or upgrade to 100GB if you feel you must have the videos on Amazon.
